With over three decades of experience as a fashion, beauty, and fine art photographer, Rico Schwartzberg possesses the requisite sophistication and nuance to cater to the demanding needs of his clientele. His time is divided between San Francisco and Portugal, where he showcases his work at Adorna Galeria in Porto.

With his impeccable studio lighting, Rico takes a painterly approach to his image-making, with color being of paramount importance. Rico is completely versed in digital imaging, with 20 years of experience shooting Phase One and Canon digital capture for both print and web advertising. His skills include all aspects of digital workflow, from capture to retouching and color management.

Rico is a native of Brooklyn, NY. Moving to the West Coast to pursue a degree in Ethnomusicology at UC Berkeley, he soon succumbed to the music and fashion erupting from the underground punk clubs. He developed his visual style by photographing the bands, scene-makers, and assorted demimonde. While working as a color printmaker in a professional darkroom, he honed his technical skills. A rigorous mastery of printmaking matched with a painter’s eye toward color, texture, and form has enabled Rico to create bold images that have a contemporary point of view, yet rooted in a close study of art history.

A recent exploration into moving images and animation has yielded award-winning short videos and animations. He has taught editorial fashion photography and advanced Photoshop retouching at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA, and is an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in Photoshop CS.
